Drew Barrymore Cries Over Finally Finding ‘Peace’ Ahead Of 50th Birthday: ‘Would Have Never Guessed’

Drew Barrymore is embracing unexpected serenity ahead of a milestone birthday. The Hollywood icon opened up about turning 50 in a new interview with AARP magazine and she got emotional while reflecting on her journey to self-acceptance. Drew noted the challenges she faced in the aftermath of child stardom and how she spent much of her life assuming she’d never truly relax. “My whole life I’ve been worried and stressed and, like, happy and having the best time ever. I would have never guessed that I would feel peace,” she said, adding, “This last decade has been the most ass-kicking and furthering of my life, and it is finally bringing peace.” The talk show host went on to explain how onetime guest Ellen Pompeo’s wisdom about aging helped prepare her for a healthy new perspective and that she plans on taking a fresh approach to her next chapter. “You just realize you’re gonna live X amount of years, if you’re lucky, and I would like to live the second half of my life like the B side a record, not the same way as the A side,” she said. Drew has always been known for her free spirited personality of course, and that shows no sign of changing! The star is mom to daughters Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, with ex-husband Will Kopelman and told the mag she’s going to ring in her new decade on Feb. 22 with the girls and a few close friends, doing “some real middle-aged woman s—.”
