2025 Oscar Nomination Snubs & Surprises: From Ariana Grande To ‘Emilia Perez & More

Ariana Grande is officially an Oscar-nominated actress! On Thursday, Jan. 23, the nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott after being initially delayed following the Los Angeles fires. “Emilia Perez” dominated with most nominations, 13 in total, including “Best Picture” and “Best Director,” with Zoe Saldaña being nominated for “Best Supporting Actress” while costar Karla Sofía Gascón is up for “Best Actress.” However, Selena Gomez, who also starred in the movie, was not included in the nominations. “Wicked” picked up 10 nominations, including “Best Picture,” with Cynthia Erivo receiving the “Best Actress” nomination and Ariana Grande receiving the “Best Supporting Actress” nomination. “The Brutalist” also picked up 10 nominations, followed by “Conclave” and “A Complete Unknown” which each earned 8. All three films are up for “Best Picture.” Speaking of “A Complete Unknown,” Timothée Chalamet is nominated “Best Actor” for his role in the blockbuster while his costars Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro are up for “Best Supporting Actor” and “Best Supporting Actress,” respectively. Plus, Former “Succession” costars Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong both earned their first-ever Academy Award nominations and are competing against each other in the “Best Supporting Actor” category with Strong up for his role in “The Apprentice” while Culkin is nominated for his performance in “A Real Pain.” Meanwhile, there were also noticeable snubs this year. Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie were among A-list actresses who were not considered for their respective projects, “Babygirl” and “Maria.” Neither were “The Last Showgirl” costars Jamie Lee Curtis and Pamela Anderson. Daniel Craig and Denzel Washington also did not earn nominations for their respective films, “Queer” and “Gladiator II.”
