Jordan Chiles Stripped Of Bronze Medal In Bombshell Olympics Ruling After Scoring Drama

Jordan Chiles will have to return her bronze medal after a bombshell Olympics ruling. The gymnast won her first individual medal at the Paris Games in the floor finals, but the victory wasn’t without controversy. Jordan initially placed fifth in the event before her coach, Cécile Canqueteau-Landi, filed an inquiry with the judges, claiming that the difficulty of Jordan’s routine had not been taken into proper account. The judges ultimately agreed and increased Jordan’s score by one tenth of a point, putting her into third place ahead of Romania’s Ana Barbosu. Because Jordan performed last, Ana had already begun celebrating before the revised decision. Romania’s gymnastics officials appealed to the International Gymnastics Federation, known as FIG, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport announced on Aug. 10 that Jordan’s original score was being restored after the organization determined that her coach had filed the judges’ inquiry four seconds outside the one-minute window.
