Why Was Scott Peterson’s Death Penalty Sentence Overturned?
More than 15 years after Scott Peterson was convicted for the Christmas Eve murder of his pregnant wife Laci, the California Supreme Court has overturned his death penalty sentence. The court upheld his murder convictions for the 2002 killings of both his wife and unborn son, but after a series of “significant errors” in jury selection, the judge has ordered a new penalty-phase trial.
