Team USA Swimmer Nic Fink Reveals What He Was Thinking During His 2024 Paris Olympics Final

Nic Fink is looking back at his nail-biting 100-meter breaststroke final! The 31-year-old Team USA swimmer tied for second place with Great Britain’s Adam Peaty on Aug. 28 and now, he’s telling Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans what was going through his mind during the close race. “Not much,” Nic said laughing. “You do a lot of thinking every day in practice making sure everything’s right so when you get to the meet you don’t think at all…There’s a lot of cliché’s in the sport like fingertip finishes, and stuff like that. I’ve got touched out by a fingertip, but I also touched some people out for a medal for a fingertip with so it’s really that close and a lot of drama.” With his second-place finish Nic also became the oldest firs-time medalist in U.S. swimming since 1904. “Breaststroke is an old man stroke. I’ve been saying that,” he said joking. “I was saying that when I was getting beat as an 18-year-old, so I was like my time is going to come. I didn’t realize 12 years from there it would come. Better late than ever,” he added. While chatting with Access, Nic also revealed the compliment Michael Phelps gave his medal after the race! Plus, Nic talked about becoming a first time father and how he will talk about this moment with his child. The Paris Olympics take place from July 26 to Aug. 11. They will be followed by the Paralympic Games from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8. You can watch Team USA compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics on NBC and Peacock.
