After months of back and forth, Eliza Coupe’s ill-fated “Happy Endings” didn’t find a home on the USA Network.
However, the actress has landed the starring role in “Benched,” a new comedy pilot, the network announced on Wednesday.
Coupe will play a prominent corporate lawyer who has a public nervous breakdown after getting passed over for a promotion and ends up working as a public defender. Her ensuing work with the legal underdogs quickly changes her views on justice.
The half-hour show will be written and executive produced by former “Saturday Night Live” star Michaela Watkins, and Damon Jones, who hails from famed LA comedy troupe The Groundlings.
“Party Down” co-creator John Enbom will act as showrunner.
