Whoopi Goldberg Defends Oscars After Margot Robbie & Greta Gerwig ‘Barbie’ Outcry: ‘Not Snubs’
Whoopi Goldberg is defending the Academy following “Barbie’s” Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s Oscars snubs. During the Jan. 24 episode of “The View,” the EGOT winner supported the Oscars’ nomination decisions and shared why she believes they’re “not snubs.” “Here’s the deal: Everybody doesn’t win!” she began, adding, “Well, but they’re not snubs. And that’s what I want to sort of point out. And it’s not the elites — it’s the entire family of the Academy who vote for Best Picture nominations. We all vote for Best Picture, everybody…There are no snubs, and that’s what you have to keep in mind: Not everybody gets a prize.” The Oscar winner’s comments came just one day after Ryan Gosling, who snagged a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role as Ken in the blockbuster movie, showed support for his co-star and the film’s director after they were respectively left off the Best Actress and Best Director lists.
