Titanic Sub Passenger, 19, Was ‘Terrified’ Before Trip But Agreed To Go For Father’s Day, Aunt Says
Further details about the passengers on board of the OceanGate Titanic submersible have emerged hours after the U.S. Coast Guard announced that all five tourists were believed to be dead. On Thursday, Azmeh Dawood, the older sister of Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and aunt of his son, Suleman, told NBC News that her nephew “wasn’t very up for it” and felt “terrified” about the trip to explore the wreckage of the Titanic. She told NBC News that her 19-year-old nephew ultimately moved forward with the journey because the trip fell on Father’s Day weekend and he wanted to please his dad, who was passionate about the Titanic. On Thursday, OceanGate shared a statement obtained by NBC News that said they believed all passengers were presumed dead. Later on that day, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that they discovered the tail cone, and debris, from the missing vessel near the bow of the Titanic on the sea floor.
