Sophie Turner Sets Record Straight On Her ‘Single Mother’ Comments: ‘Widely Misquoted’
Sophie Turner is setting the record straight. The actress took to Instagram on Sept. 30 to clarify previous comments she made that referenced being a single mother writing in part, “I have been widely misquoted today in publications where I have ‘stated’ that ‘it’s such a struggle being a single mother.’ I’d like to clarify that I was talking about the character of Joan that I play and was not referring to myself, which is obvious from the original interview in the Sunday Times Culture section.” The 28-year-old had been interviewed by UK’s The Sunday Times speaking about her upcoming miniseries, “Joan,” where she plays notorious and real-life diamond thief Joan Hannington, known as “the godmother.” In that piece, the “Game of Thrones” alum had spoken about a central plot of the series, which is the fight to retrieve Joan’s daughter from social services. “If I hadn’t been a mother, I don’t know if I would have been able to bring the same energy that I did into it,” she told the publication, adding, “It’s such a struggle being a single mother. Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way … but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter. It’s also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them.”
