Simone Biles Was ‘Relieved’ She Didn’t Have Tokyo ‘Flashbacks’ After Completing Her Olympic Vault
Simone Biles is glad the twisties are behind her! The 27-year-old gymnast is bringing home another Olympic gold medal after Team USA won the Women’s Team Final on July 30, but the road to her third Olympics was not a walk in the park. At the Tokyo Games Simone got the twisties during the team finals. The twisties occurs when a mental block prevents a gymnast from being able to safely land technical flips. Three years later, she’s putting that chapter behind her, telling reporters at a press conference following the team finals that she started her day with therapy before heading to the meet. “After I finished vault, I was relieved. No flashbacks or anything, but I did feel a lot of relief. And as soon as I landed vault, I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, we’re definitely going to do this,'” she told reporters, according to NBC News. Simone’s Olympics’ comeback was big! Tuesday’s win marks her eighth Olympic medal and fifth gold at the Olympics, but Simone isn’t keeping track! “I don’t keep count; I don’t keep stats. I just go out here and do what I’m supposed to, and I’m doing what I love and enjoying it,” she told reporters, per NBC News. “Honestly, I would have had to Google that,” she reportedly said when asked about becoming the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympic history. And Simone isn’t done yet! She has a chance to bring home more medals at the Women’s All-Around, Vault, Floor and Beam Finals. You can watch Team USA at the Olympics on NBC and Peacock.
