Paris Hilton Shuts Down Backlash Over Viral Diaper Changing Comment: ‘I’m Fully Involved’
Paris Hilton is setting the record straight about her hands-on parenting duties. The reality star responded to backlash over a viral clip from her Peacock series “Paris in Love” in which she told sister Nicky Hilton that she was “scared” to change her then-1-month-old son Phoenix’s diaper for the first time. The moment drew swift reaction across social media, with many criticizing Paris for seeming to have avoided the task for that long but the heiress clarified in a new TikTok on Dec. 14 that she wasn’t actually being serious. “Just wanted to clear the air about something. On my show, #ParisInLove, I joked about changing a diaper for the first time, which, let’s be honest, was just me having a bit of fun – as you can see I changed his diaper the night I brought him home,” she wrote, captioning a segment from an older episode showing her and husband Carter Reum getting their newborn settled. The 42-year-old went on to share her surprise that such a “playful comment” was “taken so seriously,” explaining that she’s “fully involved” in motherhood and “loving every moment of it.” Paris noted that despite her series depicting “real, authentic and raw” aspects of her life she still finds herself taking on the “whimsical character” she became known for in the 2000s. “It’s a role that’s hard to shake off completely,” she said of her “The Simple Life” persona. “While I love a good laugh, I also believe in being real and responsible, especially as a parent. Let’s remember to find the humor in life, but also to cherish and respect the real moments. Thanks for understanding, Happy Holidays and much love to you all!” she concluded. Phoenix is now nearly 11 months old and big brother to baby sister London, whose birth Paris announced in November.
