Meteorologist Rescues Screaming Woman From Car Submerged In Helene Floodwaters On Live TV
Meteorologist Bob Van Dillen is being hailed as a hero after saving a woman trapped in a submerged car during Tropical Storm Helene. The Fox Weather reporter was broadcasting live from Atlanta on Sept. 27 when he heard the woman screaming from her vehicle as rising floodwaters surrounded the area. Van Dillen told viewers he had called 911 but as the woman continued pleading for help, he paused his report to take action himself. Within moments, Van Dillen was seen carrying the woman on his back as he made his way back to safety through the chest-deep water. “As soon as I started going there, I was like, ‘Screw it, I’m getting her,’ and unbuckled her seatbelt, pulled her out, put her on my back and she was fine,” he said. “Everything worked out fine.” The woman’s husband arrived at the scene and the camera captured a heartwarming moment where he hugged and thanked Van Dillen for his bravery.
