Mary Lou Retton Emotionally Recalls Rare Pneumonia Battle That Left Her In ICU: ‘I’m A Fighter’
Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton is on the mend. The 55-year-old former gymnast is recovering from a rare form of pneumonia that sent her to the ICU last fall. In her first interview since news of her health condition made headlines, she told “Today’s” Hoda Kotb how she is embracing every day. “I mean, when you face death in the eyes? I have so much to look forward to,” she said. “I’m a fighter and I’m not going to give up.” While talking to Hoda, Mary Lou revealed when she first started feeling sick and detailed her health scare.
