Katy Perry Announces ‘American Idol’ Exit After 7 Seasons & Teases New Music
Katy Perry is moving on. The pop superstar announced her upcoming exit from “American Idol” after seven seasons on the judging panel, revealing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that she’s ready to put all her energy into new projects – including what sounded like a long-awaited next album. “I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for ‘Idol,'” Katy shared. “I mean, I love ‘Idol’ so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you what I’m saying Jimmy?” Katy is set to appear alongside fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan when the new season of “Idol” premieres Feb. 18 on ABC, and she teased that her fellow A-listers already got the memo about her departure from the singing competition – and maybe her new music! “They figure I’ve been in the studio for a while so they figured something is coming,” she explained. “I love the show so much but I wanna go and see the world and maybe bring new music.”
