Kate Middleton Pens Personal Note for Baby Loss Awareness Week: ‘Love, Strength and Hope’
Kate Middleton is sending support during Baby Loss Awareness Week. On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Princess of Wales issued a personal message on social media to those who have experienced the loss of a child or pregnancy. “Baby Loss Awareness Week is such an important moment to support those who have experienced the devastation of baby loss,” she wrote, adding, “Sending love, strength and hope to anyone affected. #WaveofLight” The Princess’ post, which included a photo of a “Wave of Light” candle, was signed with “C,” which is short for Catherine, to signal that it was written by herself personally. Baby Loss Awareness Week is observed in the United Kingdom from Oct. 9-15. It began as Baby Loss Awareness Day there on Oct. 15, 2002, after being inspired by Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day in the United States, according to its website. The organization adds that the next year, in 2003, the campaign expanded to a week with events across the country and the first “Wave of Light” service was held at the American Church in London. “Wave of Light,” they explain, is a globally recognized event which takes place on Oct. 15 where people light candles at 7pm local time and leave it burning for at least one hour to remember the babies who were lost too soon.
