Derek Hough Shares New Details Of Hayley Erbert’s Medical Emergency: ‘I Essentially Lost Her’
Access Hollywood spoke to Derek Hough and wife Hayley Erbert following their emotional “Dancing With The Stars” performance to Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things.” Derek stepped back to give Hayley the spotlight as the crowd gave her a standing ovation. It was the couple’s first time returning on the show nearly a year after her life-threatening medical emergency last year which required multiple skull surgeries and a long road to recovery. Derek explained why he’s getting candid for the first time about her serious her condition was, “I was told, by the doctors that she may not survive, most likely, there was a very stark chance that she wouldn’t be the same person so I essentially lost her in that moment. So to be here tonight, through a year of so many challenges and so many ups and downs. So many obstacles that she’s overcome, it felt appropriate too, because it’s almost been a year. Tonight is just the beginning because there is so much more to tell, it was a nice moment to begin, to unravel, to reveal the full extent of the story.” “Dancing with the Stars” airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. EST/PST on ABC.
