Angelina Jolie Reacts to Oscar Buzz For Her Performance In ‘Maria’: ‘Experience of a Lifetime’
As Angelina Jolie continues to receive praise for her performance as renowned opera singer Maria Callas, the actress is filled with gratitude. Speaking with Access Hollywood’s Emily Orozco at the premiere of “Maria” on Sept. 29 at the New York Film Festival, Angelina reacted to Oscar buzz. “It means a lot that somebody thinks you did a good job, right, and that means everything to me,” she said, adding, “I’m just so happy we were able to do this film. I’m so genuinely so happy. I know it sounds like people say this, but really, this was an experience of a lifetime. I learned to sing. I embodied a woman I respect.” The Academy Award winner added that she was able to work with an extraordinary team of people. “I feel like I’ve already been given the greatest gift,” she said. Despite earning an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, Angelina admitted that she’s still in disbelief as singing was something she was nervous about. “I was very, very shy about – not a lot in my life as an artist – but that one – singing… I was very insecure [and] I remain a bit insecure, but I feel so lucky that I was able to have all these classes and learn and be trained and supported.” Plus, the 49-year-old shared a message to one of her exes who she previously revealed criticized her voice, teasing, “He knows who he is.” “Maria” will release in select theaters on Nov. 27 and then on Netflix Dec. 11.
