2024 USA Election History-Making Wins: Angela Alsobrooks, Sarah McBride & More
The 2024 United States Election was a history-making night for the U.S. Congress, with many candidates cementing significant firsts with their victories. Angela Alsobrooks won her race in Maryland, becoming the first Black woman to represent the state in the Senate. She celebrated her victory on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every Marylander. To serve this state, my home, is the honor of a lifetime.” Lisa Blunt Rochester also became Delaware’s first Black woman Senator, and when both of them assume their positions next year, it will mark the first time that there will be two black women in the U.S. Senate at the same time.
