The future for a movie and TV adaptation of Stephen King’s “Dark Tower” is looking dim.
According to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has passed on the project, which was to be directed by Ron Howard and penned by Akiva Goldsman.
The massive project – based on King’s seven-book series – was slated to include three movies and two TV miniseries installments.
Paramount and Universal also previously passed on the beloved book series.
But “Dark Tower” could eventually see the light of the big and small screen.
According to Deadline, Media Rights Capital (which produced “Ted” and also the upcoming Matt Damon movie “Elysium”) is in talks to finance the project, with Russell Crowe reportedly being eyed for the lead role.
“The Dark Tower” follows gunslinger Roland Deschain, who — in an Old West-like landscape filled with magic — is on a quest to find The Dark Tower in order to save his world.
