Kat Graham as Bonnie in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ (The CW)
Bonnie Bennett will be there for Elena Gilbert in Thursday’s “The Vampire Diaries,” when her friend wants to talk about her future, in particular, the possibility of mortality.
Lily left the cure for vampirism out for Elena to find instead of destroying it in last week’s episode. But, when Elena found it, Damon stopped things from going sour with a heartfelt suggestion – they can take the cure and become human together.
There’s a lot at stake and Kat Graham said there’s “a really great scene” between her character, Bonnie, and Nina Dobrev’s Elena in Thursday’s episode, “I’d Leave My Happy Home For You,” as Elena mulls what to do.

“I think with girlfriends, you always want your girlfriends to make the decisions for themselves, not based on a boy, not based on anything other than, ‘Is this what you want?’ Is this you know what you want to do?’ And that’s real support to me. That’s real girlfriend support, so you’re gonna see a lot of that come through in the episode [on Thursday],” Kat told Access Hollywood.
With only a few episodes left in Season 6, Access had to ask if that scene is one of the moments that will have fans reaching for the tissues.

“I don’t know about that,” she said, adding that the tearjerker moments are coming very, very soon.
“Nothing’s going to be harder than the finale for sure, but you know, you get some really fun moments before that and we have a bachelorette party that’s happening, which is gonna be super, super fun,” Kat said, previewing when Bonnie and Elena help Jo say goodbye to her single life.
On a darker note, though, across town, Lily Salvatore has taken a turn for the worse. Since she was brought to present day Mystic Falls from her 1903 purgatory/hell to assist in turning Stefan’s humanity switch back on, mother Salvatore has been focused on one goal – getting her (other) family back. But when her dream of reuniting with them slipped away, Lily ended up unable to quash her dark impulses. Last week, after going ripper on a motorist, Lily called Enzo for comfort and help.
“[Annie Wersching] can be so sweet, but she also has this amazing vulnerability in her acting,” Kat said of the Season 6 “TVD” guest star. “I love when villains are justified and she really is. Everything she does is justified. … You totally understand why she’s doing everything she’s doing, which I totally admire, so getting to work with her is pretty amazing.”

What’s also been amazing has been seeing Bonnie put herself first, like she did when Damon came for the ascendant last week.
“I’m going to assume that this is who this character is now,” Kat said. “That it was just – it’s waiting for the trigger and waiting for the moment to come where she could really show who she has been since she came out from the other side, from the ’90s.”
Kat said she enjoyed seeing the reaction from fans who watched the scene play out.
“I read what the fans write and a lot of them have felt that the character, you know, gets screwed over or that she doesn’t get the respect or the equal treatment… I see all of it and I was so happy when I saw how excited the fans were getting when they saw that Bonnie was putting her foot down with someone that she has been super close with, that she has basically lived with for a while,” Kat said. “She does love Damon, you know, but she will not be taken advantage of and she’s not going to sacrifice herself when she’s only been out of [the ’90s purgatory] for a minute.”
“The Vampire Diaries” continues Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.
