‘Today’ Show News Anchor Ann Curry Apologizes For Confusing One Wheaton College With Another

When “Today” show news anchor Ann Curry delivered the commencement speech at Wheaton College in Massachusetts, she named a list of distinguished alumni, including the Rev. Billy Graham, Wes Craven and Dennis Hastert.

The problem is the evangelist, the horror movie director and the former House Speaker all attended the Wheaton College in Illinois, not the one in Massachusetts.

Curry on Monday sent a letter to college President Ron Crutcher and the Wheaton community, saying she was “mortified” by the gaffe and asking for forgiveness.

Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., where Curry spoke on Saturday, was a women’s school until the 1980s. Its own list of notable alumnae include “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl, actress Catherine Keener and former EPA Director Christie Todd Whitman.
