Teni
exclusively told Access Hollywood the process behind her viral Halloween
make-up tutorial.
AccessHollywood.com:
What was your inspiration for this Halloween tutorial?
Teni: I don’t do a lot of the costume-y stuff – my looks are always more natural.
I needed a kick start in the creativity department. I wanted to do Cleopatra,
but I didn’t want it to be your typical look. I was thinking about King Tut’s
tomb, the Pharaohs, and Cleopatra herself… I took all that into account, and I
wanted to do a blend of those ideas.

How long did it take you to complete?
Teni: It took a solid three hours. What my original idea was, because I have the
gold leaf on my lip, what to have the gold leaf cover half my face like a mask
to represent the tombs, since the pharaohs were buried in solid gold. But once
I started doing the look, I wanted to keep it more minimalist since what I was
doing was already so striking. I decided that I didn’t want to overdo the gold.
So since there was no trial, it took a long time.

What is the most important thing to consider when choosing a Halloween look?
Teni: For me personally, it’s all about making a statement; Not really doing
anything that’s been done before, but reinventing a look. I like making a
statement and being memorable. I have costumes in the past that I’ve made
myself that people are still talking about!

What tips can you give for making Halloween make-up last?
Teni: Because this is half beauty, half costume make-up, I would suggest going
for full coverage make-up. Also, be sure to set it with a setting powder so you
don’t get greasy throughout the night. You can also use a setting spray! They
have matte setting sprays that you can use once you’re done applying your
make-up, and that will help your look last for eight hours or more.
