Simone Biles Recalls Moment She Felt ‘So Anxious’ In The Olympic Village

Simone Biles is opening up about her mental health as she competes at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On Friday, the gymnastics superstar posted a “get ready with me” TikTok she’d filmed the day prior as she prepared to compete in the individual all-around final.

As she did her makeup for the big moment, Simone talked to fans about her time in Paris so far – including a moment in the Olympic Village last week where her anxiety spiked.

“I have not done much around the Olympic Village, and it’s because the first day we got here, I got to the cafeteria, and a lot of people were asking me for photos – like nonstop,” she shared.

After the requests, Simone sat down to eat, but she was still flooded with uneasiness.

“My anxiety was so bad, I was shaking, and I couldn’t stop shaking, and I was so overwhelmed,” Simone continued.

Simone shared that while she returned to the cafeteria to meet a friend there on Wednesday, it was her first time back in five days.

“I just go to the store, stock up on food, and just stay here, because it gets me so anxious,” she said.

Simone also spoke about another Paris experience that was bringing on some stress: competing for her second individual all-around gold medal.

“I’m really nervous. That’s to be expected,” she in the video said ahead of the event. “I did have therapy this morning, so I feel a little bit better. I just worked so hard mentally to get to this moment.”

“I honestly think [the vault is] the event that I’m most nervous for, because I don’t want to overpower it,” she added.

Simone ultimately took home the gold medal in the event, with her teammate Suni Lee winning bronze and Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade silver.

While filming her pre-competition video, Simone took the opportunity to celebrate Rebeca and her talent in the gym.

“Let me just tell y’all, Rebeca’s good, bro. Like, she’s good,” she emphasized. “I would say she’s my top competitor. We [have] very similar scores overall, and I haven’t had competition like this in a while, but I am very excited to be competing and rotating with her.”

“She’s super sweet, and she’s overcome a couple injuries, so to see her back out here and amazing– so I’m excited. It’ll be a good one,” Simone said.
