“American Pie” beauty Shannon Elizabeth began dating “Dancing with the Stars” hunk Derek Hough after the two were paired up for the reality competition in 2008, and though the couple called it quits in August 2009, Shannon says she’s still in touch with her former flame.
“We just went to dinner – he’s amazing,” Shannon told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover when asked if she’s still in contact with Derek on Wednesday’s Access Hollywood Live. “We just had dinner together and caught up. We’re friends.”
“A lot of people can’t go to dinner with an ex that they’ve been in a relationship with,” Kit said, hinting at a possible reconnection of the former pair.
Shannon, who will soon be back on the big screen reprising her role as sexy foreign exchange student Nadia in “American Reunion,” said given some space, she think ex-couples can usually become friends down the road.
“Well, usually it takes some time,” she explained. “You’ve gotta have some time away and then you can come back together and be friends again.”
As for her and Derek’s relationship status, Shannon did admit she and Derek are both currently unattached.
“We’re both single, but…,” she trailed off.
“American Reunion” — which also features “American Pie” vets Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott and more — hits theaters on April 6.
