Shannen Doherty has passed away at 53 after years of battling cancer.
People broke the news with an exclusive statement from the “Beverly Hills 90210” star’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, on Sunday, July 14, confirming that the actress died on Saturday, July 13.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,” the statement read.
The beloved actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and in 2017, said she was in remission. However, in 2020 she revealed that it had returned and was stage 4. In 2023, the “Charmed” star shared an emotional post on Instagram announcing that the cancer had metastasized to her brain, and later said it had spread to her bones.
Doherty rose to fame for her breakout role playing Brenda Walsh in the hit ‘90s show, “Beverly Hills 90210.”
