The 40 to None Summit raises awareness about the homelessness rate among LGBT youth, a crisis which Sara said she’s dedicated to helping overcome.
“So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections, whether they be gender identity, gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status,” she said.

“And, because of the intersections that exist in my own life: Woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican and Irish sides, I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard,” she continued.
Sara’s posts received a slew of encouraging and congratulatory comments on social media. In addition, True Colors also applauded the actress’ candid words in a supportive tweet on Saturday.
“We’re so moved & inspired to see our dear friend/board member @SaraRamirez share her truth at our #40toNone Summit,” the organization posted.
Sara wed husband Ryan DeBolt in 2012. Her “Grey’s” character, Dr. Callie Torres, also identified as bisexual. After nearly 10 years as a series regular, the 41-year-old left the hit ABC medical drama at the end of Season 12 back in May.
