Robin Wright Penn has filed for divorce from her husband, Oscar-winner Sean Penn, Access Hollywood has confirmed.
Wright Penn filed for divorce on August 12 in Marin County, in Northern California.
When asked about her marriage in the September 2009 issue of women’s magazine More, Wright Penn said she had “no regrets” over the split.
“I hit that crossroad a while ago – for Robin, the ‘I know what I don’t want’ was flashing neon lights,” she said, poking at her own hand. “I have no regrets. I, we, have two amazing children we raised together.”
Penn previously filed for legal separation from his wife on April 24, also in Marin County, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. However, he withdrew his legal filing just weeks later, calling the move “an arrogant mistake” in a statement to Access Hollywood.
Penn’s April 2009 filing was the second time the actor and his wife had filed for separation in recent years. They also filed in December 2007, although they reconciled in April 2008.
According to More the couple also split in 1991 and 1993 following the birth of their two children, Dylan Francis, now 18, and son Hopper Jack, who is 16.
Penn and Wright Penn married in April 1996.
Penn and Wright have starred in several films together, including 1988’s “Hurlyburly” and 1997’s “She’s So Lovely.”
