Robin Thicke has gotten very personal on his new album, “Paula,” named after his estranged wife Paula Patton. And on Wednesday’s “Good Morning America,” the soulful crooner explained why he’s put it all out there in music.
“When you lose the love of your life, you don’t have much to hide anymore,” he told “GMA’s” Lara Spencer.
Asked about one of his songs on the new album, a cut called “Forever Love,” Robin said he wanted to send Paula a hopeful message.

“The album — I didn’t want it to be all depressing because I didn’t want her to listen to it and make her sad only, so I wanted there to be moments where she had hope and positivity that… her and I can both still have a great life, no matter what happens and we’ll be great friends and great parents,” he said, making a reference to their son, Julian, 4.
Robin’s new video, “Still Madly Crazy,” premiered on Tuesday, and the singer explained that the clip – which features little children at a wedding – was inspired by his own nuptials to Paula.

“These songs poured out of me over the course of two weeks, and the whole album, pretty much. And when I was looking through some of our old wedding photos and our sentimental stuff, you know I saw the pictures of the kids that were at the wedding and I thought it might be nice to recreate a wedding… through the eyes of the 8-year olds,” he said.
Addressing the title of the song – “Still Madly Crazy” – Robin said, again, it was all about Paula.
“We were childhood sweethearts, so, you know, she’s the best person I ever met, so I just thought the least I could do would be to devote an album to her,” he said.
Robin said he hopes Paula likes the album, but he wouldn’t comment when asked what she thought about the videos.

“That’s private. I can’t speak for her,” he told the “GMA” host.
Asked if he had a message for his fans, Robin said, “If you’ve got a good woman, take care of her, guys.”
