Rihanna is mourning the loss of a superfan.
The “Love on the Brain” singer took to Instagram to share a touching tribute to Monia, a fan who became a pal to the pop star. Monia recently passed away after her long battle with cancer.
On Thursday, the songstress shared a selfie she took with her late friend. Monia was snapped smiling ear-to-ear for the camera while Rihanna made a sassy duck face.
“Navy Angels! This Christmas, we lost a beautiful spirit who was such a pillar of strength to us,” the 30-year-old star wrote alongside an adorable pic of the duo on Thursday.
“Most of our friendship she’s spent in a hospital or doctor’s office,” Rihanna added. “This picture was just a few months ago, she looked at me and said ‘Rih the cancer is back’ I’ll never forget the fear in her eyes this day!”
Rihanna concluded her touching post to Monia:”Still she pushed forward, fighting the fight everyday with the Navy behind her supporting her every step of the way! We are all heartbroken about this. You will never be forgotten! Love you my angel @moniasto fly in peace.”
The pair met in London at the star’s Savage X Fenty London pop-up shop back in June. At the time of the meeting, Monia took to Instagram to post an emotional video of the pair talking and embracing.
“This is me right after I told her my cancer got back, it literally broke my heart to tell her this,” Monia wrote alongside the video. “But she’s so caring and supportive!! love you forever @badgalriri thank you so much for this!”
Rihanna also shared the same video of the friends on Thursday.
“Miss you already sis @moniasto💔😇 #NavyAngels,” the singer wrote on Instagram.
