Rihanna is opening up about her relationship with LA Dodgers star Matt Kemp, and the “Only Girl (In The World)” singer is reportedly “blissfully happy once again.” Moreover, in a new interview with Access on Wednesday, she explains more about missing BFF Katy Perry’s wedding last weekend in India.
“I feel like I smile for real this time,” Rihanna told Marie Claire UK of her pro baseball player beau, in an interview for the mag’s December 2010 issue. “The smiles come from inside, and it exudes in everything I do. People feel my energy is different. When I smile they can tell that it’s pure bliss and not just a cover up.”
The 22-year-old singer also revealed details about ending her volatile relationship with R&B singer Chris Brown in the wake of their February 2009 domestic violence incident.
“One day, I remember I was in New York at the Trump Hotel and I woke up and I just knew I was over it,” she told the mag. “I needed that wake-up call in my life. I needed a turning point, and that’s what God was giving to me. All [of] this terrible stuff they say to you, it breaks you down.
“[But] once you’re back on your feet – if you ever make it back on your feet – that’s the ultimate achievement,” she said.
When asked if she believes in “destiny,” the Barbados-born beauty responded, “Definitely. And I never did before.”
“The most important thing is to be happy and true to yourself. I don’t want to look back at this 30 years from now and say, ‘I did it all to make them happy and I didn’t enjoy,’” she told the mag. “I want to be able to say people loved me because of who I am.”
In related news, romance isn’t the only blossoming aspect of Rihanna’s young life – her professional schedule is also jam-packed.
She recently debuted her self-titled first book (a photo scrapbook featuring candid shots of the star taken by Simon Henwood, creative director for RiRi’s “Last Girl on Earth” tour), and told Access that she has already started working on a second book. She is also currently filming “Battleship,” alongside “True Blood’s” Alexander Skaarsgard and “Friday Night Lights” star Taylor Kitsch, while preparing for the release of her highly anticipated fifth studio album, “Loud.”
“I’m really excited about [the new album],” Rihanna told Access, at a signing for her book on Wednesday. “After that, we’ll be going back to the movie and then maybe preparing for tour next year.”
Rihanna will also appear as musical guest on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live,” performing new songs “Only Girl (In The World),” and “What’s My Name?”
Given her incredibly full schedule, it’s no wonder that Rihanna wasn’t able to attend friend and fellow popstar Katy Perry’s wedding in India last weekend.
“I didn’t get to go to the wedding,” Rihanna told Access. “Luckily, Katy is in the same industry as me, so she understands and she knows how it can get.
“But I was fortunate enough to be able to throw her bachelorette party, so I got to be involved somehow,” she added.
Rihanna’s “Loud” hits stores on November 16, and her full interview with Marie Claire UK’s December 2010 issue hits newsstands on November 28.
