Probation Officer: Lohan Claims She Can’t Afford Rehab

Lindsay Lohan may be spending the next two-and-a-half months in in-patient rehab at the Betty Ford Center, where she’s also resided for the past month, but according to her probation officer’s report released on Friday, she can’t afford it.

In the report to the court, Lohan’s probation officer noted that the actress said, “she cannot afford to continue to pay for the treatment program and she needs to work.”

Rehab at Betty Ford isn’t cheap. A rep for the facility told Access Hollywood on Friday that in-patient treatment for a young adult (18-25) costs $27,500 for 30 days, $53,00 for 90 days and $63,000 for 120 days.

In addition to the financial strains of in-patient rehab, the actress told her probation officer that “her clothing line is falling apart because she is not available to monitor the project,” the report noted. She also said she needed to start work next month on a movie (presumably, the Linda Lovelace biopic, “Inferno”).

While Lohan may be having financial difficulties, the professionals involved with her case recommended to the court that she indeed did need to stay in in-patient rehab.

According to the probation report, Gary Richman, a chemical dependency counselor Lohan has been seeing, told the actress’ probation officer that she needs ongoing treatment. He also told the probation officer that the actress has a lot of growing up to do.

Richman reportedly told the probation officer that after Lohan failed her drug test in September, just days after her release from the UCLA medical Center (where she had previously spent more than 20 days in rehab), he noticed a big change in the actress.

“After the positive drug test with the probation department, Mr. Richman indicates the defendant finally began to talk about feeling powerless and about being an addict,” Lohan’s probation officer noted in the report to the court.

Additionally, Richman revealed that after that failed drug test, he began testing Lohan every day until September 24, the date of her last court hearing.

The newly released report also contains information from Lohan’s doctor from UCLA’s neuropsychiatric hospital. In the report, Dr. Lee Sadja says that he told the probation officer that the actress needs to work hard on her issues “in order to save her life.”

Additionally, Sadja added that Lohan is a “wonderful young woman.”

Lohan’s case manager, Leslie Place from the Betty Ford Center, was also interviewed for the probation report. Place reportedly told Lohan’s probation officer that she was participating in a specialty group “geared toward improving self-esteem,” the officer noted.

On Friday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox ordered Lohan to remain in, in-patient rehab until January 3. The ruling was the result of Lohan’s positive drug test while on probation.
