Patrick Dempsey is busier than ever. With the seventh season return of his hit ABC drama, “Grey’s Anatomy,” and a blockbuster movie in the works, the handsome father of three is enjoying spending his limited free time with his kids.
“They’re growing, they’re bigger,” Patrick told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush of his children, during a recent trip to the set of “Grey’s Anatomy.” “They’re very fast. It’s hard to catch them now, but it’s a blast.
“It’s nice to be in town and spend time with them,” he added. “I see them in the night and in the morning, which is good.”
The cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” has recently experienced a real life baby boom, with Ellen Pompeo giving birth to her daughter, Stella Luna, in September 2009, and the arrival of Eric Dane’s daughter (Billie Beatrice) in March.
“Everybody has kids – we should have a day school [at the ‘Grey’s’ set],” Patrick said, jokingly. “It’s anybody who’s here longer than two years is pregnant probably the third year — that’s how it’s working out. It’s amazing.
“Come here and you’ll have children,” he laughed with Billy.
The Hollywood hunk is about to make a major move from Seattle Grace’s sensitive small screen neurosurgeon, Dr. Derek “McSteamy” Shepherd, to a full-blown big screen action star in the third installment of Michael Bay’s “Transformers” — and the mild-mannered actor is having a “blast” with the switch.
“I’ve never been in anything this big before, and it’s fun,” Patrick told Billy of the upcoming sci-fi adventure. “I feel like a little kid. Like you really go, ‘Oh my gosh, this is amazing to be in this business.’
“The scale of [‘Transformers 3’] is just incredible and Michael Bay is a blast to work with,” he said. “You’re outside and it’s completely different. You’re looking at the Autobots and the Decepticons, and streets are just shut down all over Chicago, and it’s like, epic. It’s huge.”
Billy, who phoned Michael Bay on the way to the “Grey’s” set, relayed a message to Patrick from his “Transformers” director.
“[Michael] told me, ‘Tell Patrick that out of all the action sequences that I’ve shot ever, no guy looks better as an action hero than him,’” Billy said.
“Well, he knows how to shoot people,” Patrick laughed.
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” is slated to hit theaters on July 1, 2011, and “Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thursday at 9 PM on ABC.
