Normani is celebrating her strength through her debut album, “Dopamine.”
“I feel like it really is just a declaration and representation of my resilience,” the “Candy Paint” songstress told Access Daily’s Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover of the project.
“I’ve been through so much, from my personal life – things that have gone on behind the scenes that a lot of people just aren’t aware of – but I’ve never given up on myself,” she continued. “I feel like my endurance– I’ve definitely been tested spiritually, emotionally, physically, but God was with me every step of the way, and I’m just grateful to finally see the day.”
“Dopamine” was a long time coming for Normani, hitting shelves years after she first skyrocketed to solo success with hit singles like “Love Lies” and “Dancing with a Stranger.”
She told Access that in making the album, she took her time and wanted to “really curate a sound” that was “authentic” in order to “fully represent who Normani is.”
“I owed that to myself,” she said.
Following “Dopamine’s” June release, fans can soon expect music videos and a tour on the way.
“That’s what I’m most excited for,” Normani said of getting onstage again. “I’m like, ‘I’ve been in the studio for a minute, but I have so much bottled up in me.’ I feel most at home when I’m onstage, so I’m excited for that – and to see my fans! Like, to feel them! It’s been a minute.”
“Dopamine” is out now.
