NBC & Lifetime ‘Make It Work’ – ‘Project Runway’ To Return This Summer

“Project Runway’s” Season 6 was almost discarded like a tattered scrap of fabric from Mood – but fortunately, the legal battle for control of the fashion reality show has been resolved without it turning into a further fierce legal mess.

After much discussion, the show will make its move to Lifetime, after all.

“NBC Universal, The Weinstein Company and Lifetime have resolved their disputes. The Weinstein Company will pay NBCU for the right to move Project Runway to Lifetime. All of the parties are pleased with the outcome,” NBC Universal said Wednesday in a statement released to Access Hollywood.

The future of the show was left hanging by a silk thread, after The Weinstein Co. – which produces the series – signed a five-year deal with Bravo’s rival, Lifetime, in 2008.

“I want to personally congratulate Jeff Zucker and NBCU on their success in the litigation and thank Jeff for resolving this in a professional manner,” Harvey Weinstein said in a statement. “We look forward to working together on our ongoing projects.”

In February, host Heidi Klum told the Associated Press that she was “a little bit sad” because Season 6 finalists debuted their collections in Bryant Park on the final day of New York Fashion Week without the public ever getting a chance to know them.

But now, all that will change this summer when “Runway” debuts its new season on Lifetime — and Heidi is thrilled the show finally has a home!

“I am so thrilled that fans will be getting their ‘Project Runway’ back this summer!” Heidi said in a statement to Access on Wednesday. “And it will be worth the wait because Season 6 is amazing and a lot of fun. I’m glad the talented designers will get their chance in the spotlight, plus we have the new added bonus of Models of the Runway. And as much as I appreciate loyal fans telling us how much they miss the show, I can finally say WE ARE BACK!”

Meanwhile, Lifetime president and CEO Andrea Wong was also ecstatic the matter has been resolved.

“I couldn’t be more excited that Lifetime will bring its viewers an amazing, all-new season of ‘Project Runway’ this summer,” Wong said in a statement released to Access. “All of us at Lifetime are thrilled to move forward with Heidi, Tim, Nina, Michael, The Weinstein Company and the entire ‘Project Runway’ team.”
