After three rounds of competition – a first on “Dancing With the Stars” – celebrity competitor Mya showed she is determined to win the mirrorball.
Mya and her partner, Dmitry Chaplin, netted 87 out of 90 points for the night, after three magnificent dances that impressed the judges.
The pop star and Dmitry had Judge Bruno Tonioli raving after their first number, a beautiful and glamorous waltz.
“That was love set to music,” Bruno said as the pair took 28 out of 30 points for Round 1. “I absolutely loved it.”
And things went up from there. Mya and Dmitry’s second round salsa was so impressive, it left Bruno with few words.
“Only one word can describe this – Sensational,” Bruno screamed as they took home the lone perfect score of the night – 30 out of 30.
Their last number too – a cha cha – was highly rated, scoring a 29 out of 30.
Model Joanna Krupa and her partner, Derek Hough, managed a second place finish for the night, taking 81 out of a possible 90 points. Their highlight of the night was a Viennese waltz, which Derek’s former partner Brooke Burke, helped out with during practice.
“This waltz had the grace of angels in heaven,” Bruno said.
While Kelly Osbourne and her professional partner, Louis van Amstel, managed a third place finish with 78 points for the night, she left with the admiration of judge Carrie Ann Inaba following an emotional rumba in Round 1.
“You brought me to tears,” a choked up Carrie Ann said. “You aren’t our strongest dancer… but you have a magical quality. You reach right into [our] heart and you make me love you.”
A slip during his first round helped land Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson at the bottom of the pack and the performer blamed his mishap on his sister Marie, who was in the audience.
“I don’t know if it was Kym’s dress and the hem came down, but it was a catastrophe,” judge Len Goodman said of Donny and Kym’s Tango.
“You know what it was?… I saw Marie,” Donny told the judges.
“You completely lost it,” Bruno chimed in as the pair took just 21 out of 30 points for their first dance. “Usually you’re a master of disguise… Tonight you couldn’t pull it off. It all went to pieces.”
Donny managed to pull it together for his two final dances – a samba which earned 26 out of 30 and a jitterbug which took 27 out of 30 — but the first score landed them at the bottom of the leaderboard.
