Madonna’s 13-year-old daughter Lourdes co-opted mom’s “Like A Virgin” look in Madonna’s “Celebration” music video. Now, in an all-new interview with Access Hollywood, the pop queen revealed how Lourdes has developed her own style sense inspired by her mom.
“She’s seen lots of pictures of me at that time and she’s like, ‘Oh my God, mom! You used to dress so cool!’” Madonna laughed.
“Used to?” Access asked.
“Yeah,” Madonna joked. “She liked my outfit today. She’s definitely very opinionated about how I dress.”
Madonna teamed up with her first born to launch their new project together — a juniors clothing line, aptly named “Material Girl,” which will be available at Macy’s in September.
“When she chooses her own wardrobe for when she’s going out or going to school or whatever, I have a lot of input, but when it comes to designing the line it’s pretty much her point of view,” Madonna explained.
The Material mom said she loves watching her daughter’s creativity flourish.
“The most fun is when [Lourdes] comes into the room and takes over and pulls out all of her favorite stuff and starts going through the racks and just takes over,” Madonna said. “I just sit on the conference table and watch and let her do the work — it’s nice, it’s refreshing.”
Like mother, like daughter as Lourdes’ unique fashion sense is undeniable– and their clothing line is an homage to the early ‘80s, which of course is when her mom wrote the rules for what was hot.
“It’s weird because my closet doesn’t really have that much of that look so she’s somehow figured out a way to do it on her own… thrift shops and taking bits and pieces from her favorite stores… stealing stuff from my closet and she creates this look that is her own, but also influenced by the early ‘80s and the way that I used to dress, so I think it’s in the DNA,” Madonna smiled.
