Adam Shankman produced the 2010 big screen romance “The Last Song” – starring Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth – and the director/producer says he’d like a little credit for having a hand in introducing the recently engaged pair.
“I sort of want a finder’s fee for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth,” Adam told People, adding that he was overwhelmed when he learned of the young couple’s engagement. “I cannot tell you. It made me cry.”
Adam, who also directed the upcoming Tom Cruise-led musical “Rock of Ages,” said he saw sparks flying between Liam and the “Party in the USA” singer almost immediately on the “Last Song” set.
“I remember that first day of shooting when they first kissed and Miley walked by my sister [producer Jennifer Gibgot] after they shot the kissing scene,” he told the mag. “She goes, ‘This is gonna work.’ “
Despite their youth (Miley is 19, Liam is 22), Adam said he thinks the duo have a good thing going, as they’re very different and “opposites attract.”
“Their fundamental core values are the same, but he’s really mellow and she’s really hyper. So it really works together,” he said. “It’s extraordinary, and I’m so happy. I’m scared at how beautiful those children are going to be.”
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Liam proposed to Miley on May 31 with a Neil Lane 3.5-carat diamond ring.
Miley took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank fans for support, writing, “thank you for all the love today 🙂 I’m happy to share this news with you all. I feel like all my dreams are coming true. have a great day.”
