Kirk Cameron Expresses ‘Great Sorrow’ For Andrew Koenig

Former “Growing Pains” star Kirk Cameron has told Access Hollywood he has “great sorrow” over the death of his former cast mate, Andrew Koenig.

“It is with great sorrow to hear about the final outcome of the search for my old friend Andrew,” he told Access in a statement. “I hope everyone will be sensitive to the Koenigs and give the family some private time to reflect and to grieve the loss of their beloved son. At a time like this, we all are reminded of the briefness of life and the importance of being ready for our eternal destination. My prayers will continue to be with Andrew’s family.”

Andrew, who played Richard “Boner” Stabone on the ‘80s TV show, was found dead in Vancouver on Thursday after going missing earlier this month.

Police confirmed the news at a press conference on Thursday, where Andrew’s father, Walter Koenig, told reporters that his son had taken his own life.

“What you can learn from this… is that there are people out there who really, really care,” he said at the time.

Police would not discuss the cause of death at the press conference.

On Monday, Kirk told Access he was “praying for his family” over the disappearance.

“I am very concerned to hear of the disappearance of my old friend Andrew Koenig,” Cameron said in a statement to Access at the time. “Although I have not had contact with him for many years, I can remember many of the fun times we had on the set of ‘Growing Pains.’ … Andrew, if you’re reading this, please call me. Mike and Boner could always work things out when they put their minds to it. I’m praying for you, pal. Hope to hear from you soon.”
