Kim Cattrall On Dating, Younger Men & Hitting The Stage

Kim Cattrall may be known the world over for playing fearless man-eater Samantha Jones in “Sex and The City,” but she’s never been tempted to try on the fictional PR guru’s attitude in real life.

“Oh God, no. No, no, no, not unless I’ve got lines to say and I’m on a set,” she told Britain’s Telegraph newspaper. “I’ve never been able to do that thing of picking up men. I’ve never gone out looking for a man, or a relationship. It’s just evolved in a very natural way because it feels right.”

While the actress, who is currently in rehearsals for her return to the London stage in the play “Private Lives,” may not take on Samantha-like behaviors, she does share a few things with her “SATC” character. Like Samantha, Kim recently split with her younger beau of several years — Chef Alan Wyse – and she opened up about the end of their relationship to the paper.

“It’s very hard for someone not involved in this business to really understand what it’s about,” she said. “You work 12-hour days, and something like a series literally consumes your life. I think it’s just time not there, really. But I’m still hopeful that I’ll meet someone.”

When asked about the age difference between herself and Wyse, which was two decades, Kim said it wasn’t an issue.

“People find love in all shapes, sizes, ages, nationalities,” she said.

As for her professional life, Kim begins her London theater run opposite Matthew Macfayden (“Frost Nixon,” “Pride & Prejudice”) on February 24, and she said hitting the stage again is nerve-wracking.

“Sometimes I think why do I have to do these scary things? It would be much easier just to play Sam for the rest of my life,” she said. “You’ve been looking forward to working with this director and these actors and this play and then it comes and you think, ‘Oh, f***!’…. Like, ‘Oh no! It’s here!’ You very much feel the blood coursing through your veins.”
