Kevin Hart Quotes Martin Luther King Jr. One Day After Stepping Down As Oscars Host

The morning after Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the 2019 Oscar Awards, he quoted Martin Luther King Jr..

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. Martin Luther King, Jr.,” Kevin wrote on Twitter.

The quotation came just 9 hours after the comedian stepped down from hosting the 91st Academy Awards after he told his fans in an Instagram video that he would not apologize for tweets from his past that had derogatory language toward the LGBTQ community. Ultimately, the 39-year-old actor did apologize as he announced he would be exiting the role as this year’s Oscars host .

“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past,” Kevin wrote on Twitter.

“I’m sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again,” he followed.

In the video that he posted on Instagram before stepping down, the “Jumanji” star explained that he felt that he had addressed this several times in the past and did not feel he needed to apologize at the time because he’s a different person now and he’s in a great place in his life. He said he now just spreads positivity.

The show must go on though. Kevin continued his comedy show tour in Australia on Thursday night and thanked his fans for coming out to support him.

But now who will host the Oscars?
