Kevin Costner Says ‘Horizon’ Is The Kind Of Movie He Wishes ‘Somebody Made For Me’

Kevin Costner is ready to show the world a project he’s been working on for decades.

“Horizon: An American Saga” is the first of a four-part film series directed, produced and co-directed by Kevin. According to IMDb, it follows a 15-year span of the pre-and-post Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.

Getting the film made was no walk in the park, in fact, the Oscar winner told Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans that the project has been in the works since the ‘80s.

“The origin started in 1988 and I didn’t write that, it was an idea that I had. I tried to make it [but] couldn’t, so to everybody out there, you know sometimes the things that you want you just gotta keep kind of pushing on it,” he said. “I knew it needed to be different and I just didn’t know how different it was going to become and suddenly it became four, which you know everybody questions the wisdom of that, but we’ve done two now, we’re working on three.”

After working on it for years, the movie hit close to home for Kevin, so much so, that he named his 15-year-old son Hayes after one of the characters in the film.

“Hayes is now 15 so you realize I have been punching a while,” he said.

Hayes was even in the film, and he told Access at the Los Angeles premiere what it was like working with his father.

“It was so fun, just working with my dad, I loved it, and he just taught me everything and he was there directing me by [my] side, and it was just amazing to watch him direct because I’d never seen it before. I’ve only seen him act before,” he told Access.

Turns out Hayes’ sweet words left a mark on Kevin, who admitted it felt “good” to hear his son’s touching remarks as he emotionally fought back tears.

Now that the film is getting ready to be released, the “Yellowstone” alum admits he wishes he could see it in the theater for the first time.

“I made it for people. It’s the kind of movie I wish somebody made for me,” he told Scott. “Yeah, I’m kinda jealous that I won’t be seeing it with eyes that a lot of people will be looking at it.”

“Horizon: An American Saga” hits theaters June 28.
