Justin Timberlake Talks Haiti Telethon: ‘It Was A Feeling Of Unity’

Justin Timberlake was one of the dozens of stars who turned up on Friday night to perform and field calls at the “Hope For Haiti Now” telethon, and he told Access Hollywood it was a magical evening.

“When George [Clooney] kind of came into the [room] and said, ‘OK you guys, that was amazing,’ everybody kind of got up and applauded,” Justin told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson on Saturday on the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet. “We were hugging and everybody kind of stood there and talked to each other for a while and so it was a feeling of unity. It was really cool.”

The singer gave a memorable performance with his record label signee Matt Morris, a chum from his “Mickey Mouse Club” days, of the Leonard Cohen song “Hallelujah,” but he stuck around to field calls from some of the many people who phoned up to donate in aid of Haiti.

“I mostly got, probably more calls from New York… They were patching all the New York calls, I think, to me,” Justin said of the people he spoke to. “It was immediately all these ‘SNL’ references came out and we had some laughs.

“I had a good time talking to people,” Justin added.

On Monday it was announced that over 80 million people worldwide tuned into Friday’s telethon, which raised more than $57 million.

In addition to George Clooney, who was behind the event, a host of A-listers turned up to lend their support including Leonardo DiCaprio, Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.

While he’s an international pop sensation, even Justin was blown away by how many celebrities were in the same place, working for the same cause.

“It was definitely a surreal moment to see everybody in the same room. It says a lot about everyone who attended,” Justin said. “It says a lot about George that he’s beloved and it says a lot about the size of everyone’s heart and soul to be there… It was really cool.”
