When it comes to NBC’s scheduling shake-ups, every late night host seems to have an opinion – including Jimmy Kimmel, who performed his Tuesday night show in costume and character as Jay Leno.
“Hello, hello, I’m Jay Leno. Let it hereby be known I’m taking over all the shows on late night,” Jimmy, whose “Jimmy Kimmel Live” show airs on ABC, joked. “You know what ABC stands for? Always bump Conan [O’Brien].”
The comic wore a grey wig and a prosthetic chin during his hour, and he wasn’t the only one in costume – guest Chevy Chase donned a Conan O’Brien-esque wig.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Conan released a statement on Tuesday saying he would not accept NBC’s request to move “The Tonight Show” to 12:05 AM to accommodate Jay’s move back to 11:35 PM from primetime.
“I sincerely believe that delaying ‘The Tonight Show’ into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting,” he wrote.
And Conan fans showed their support for the comedian on Tuesday night by tuning in to “The Tonight Show” – according to the Los Angeles Times, it scored a 1.7 rating / 7 share among adults 18-49, up 40 percent from Monday.
