“Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is making the rounds to promote her new book, “A Shore Thing,” and found herself in the hot seat on Tuesday’s “Today” show, where the 23-year-old reality star was grilled on her thoughts about being dubbed a “role model” for kids.
“We’re not trying to be role models for kids, we’re just trying to be ourselves and fun,” Snooki told Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb during the “Today” show’s fourth hour on Tuesday. “I get mad when people like, under 18 watch our show ‘cause I’m like, ‘You shouldn’t be watching our show.’”
Snooki, who often boasts of her multiple hookups – or “smushing,” for those of you in the know — said her nationally televised sexuality is difficult for her parents to watch.
“Obviously, my dad doesn’t really take it that well, but I think I’m old enough to make my own decisions,” Snooki added. “My mom is really conservative — she’s like, not me at all.
“She’s proud of where I am right now, but she has some talks with me from time to time,” she added.
The self-dubbed Princess of Poughkeepsie agrees that her often drunken behavior on the show – including an arrest for drunkenly disturbing the peace at the beach in Seaside Heights – contributes to America’s somewhat poor impression of her, but says that the amount of criticism she receives isn’t necessarily “fair.”
“I don’t think [the judging] is fair,” Snooki told Matt Lauer earlier in the show. “But then again, that’s all they see on the show is us partying and having a good time. But I’m not like that all the time. That’s summertime. It’s like vacation time… I’m not like that all year round.”
The pint-sized star became seemingly defensive when asked by Matt if she has a “drinking issue.”
“No! I’m 23 years-old,” she exclaimed.
“Well, a lot of 23-year-olds have drinking issues,” Matt continued.
“Well, not me,” Snooki reiterated. “I only party during the summer like that. It’s never like that all year round.”
Snooki also revealed she plans to continue the Polizzi gene pool.
When asked if she’d like to have children of her own someday, Snooks didn’t miss a beat, answering with an emphatic “Oh, hell yeah!”
