Jeremy Renner: ‘I Have Always Supported Women Deserving Equal Pay’

Jeremy Renner made
headlines last week after stating the gender pay gap is not his “job.”

The
“Avengers” actor took to his WhoSay account on Friday to clarify his
previous widely reported remarks.

“So to set the record straight and give some clarity
to how I feel, which seems not to have been reported in its entirety, I lean on
social media to relate with people directly because this is important to
me,” he wrote, in a post titled “Jeremy Renner On Gender Equality in Hollywood: ‘My Words, My Voice.'”

“On the issue of gender equality I have always
supported women deserving equal pay. Period. A person should be rewarded only
by their merit or service to their given field,” he continued. “Gender,
race, creed, or sexual orientation should have absolutely no influence in pay,
positively or negatively.”

The actor said he has long been a proponent of acceptance
and social evolvement for all people.

“I have always asked for all of us to move towards a
unity and equality not just in pay, but social acceptance and discover
compassion and tolerance within ourselves, to bridge our differences; united we
stand,” he wrote. “We will always be one. Like it or not.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, when asked
in a recent interview if he plans to be open about his salary info with female
co-stars after his “American Hustle” co-stars Amy Adams and Jennifer
Lawrence were paid significantly less than the male roster, Jeremy replied, “That’s
not my job.”

“I don’t know contracts and money and all that sort
of stuff,” he continued.
