Jean-Claude Van Damme will roundhouse kick his way back onto the big screen this summer in “Expendables 2” and the 51-year-old star says fans should expect some exciting action from the beefy cast in the highly-anticipated sequel.
“I think ‘Expendables [2]’ is gonna be a great film — we have all of those action stars from the past,” he told Access Hollywood at Spike TV’s 6th Annual Guys Choice Awards in Culver City, Calif., on Saturday.
The impressive cast boasts a host of martial art legends – including Jet Li and Chuck Norris – something Jean-Claude said will make for exhilaratingly realistic combat scenes.
“They know how to fight, in a sense, without covering themselves with angles — they can stay wide frame,” he told Access. “So, it’s gonna look kind of strong, lots of action, CGI, guns… you’ll be very happy!”
Jean-Claude was on hand to present the Guys Choice Jean Claude Gahd Dam award to “Underworld” franchise star Kate Beckinsale and said he’s honored to have an award in his name – though he does have a suggestion for a new award title.
“It’s kind of cool — it’s like, I’m still, I believe, an action star, and it’s kind of an honor for me to be able to give like an action type of [congratulations] like, ‘You did well,’” he said. “It should be the ‘Van Damage’ award!’”
Catch Jean-Claude, Sylvester Stallone, Chris Hemsworth, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Jason Statham and more in “Expendables 2” – in theaters on August 17.
