Valerie Harper’s TV family is pulling for her recovery.
Jason Bateman, who played the actress’ son on ’80s sitcom “Valerie,” spoke to Access Hollywood on Thursday about Harper’s prognosis.
“She’s a very, very special person,” the actor said of Harper at the premiere of his new film, “The Gift,” in Hollywood. “And someone I learned a lot from, so I think she’ll come through great.”

The “Mary Tyler Moore Show” star was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2013, and initially given just months to live. She was hospitalized on July 29 prior to a scheduled stage performance.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, a rep for the Ogunquit Playhouse told Access on Thursday morning that Harper’s stay was “a precaution,” and denied reports she had collapsed and been found unconscious.
“Valerie Harper was taken to a local hospital as a precaution before her July 29 evening performance of ‘Nice Work If You Can Get It’ at the Ogunquit Playhouse, after reporting that she was not feeling well,” the theater said in a statement to Access. “She is resting comfortably and will remain in the hospital for observation for the time being.”
Access later confirmed that Harper was released from York Hospital on Thursday.
