Jack Black Cancels Tenacious D Tour After Bandmate Kyle Gass’ Trump Shooting Joke

Jack Black has canceled his Tenacious D tour following bandmate Kyle Gass’ onstage joke about the assassination attempt against Donald Trump.

Black announced the news in a social media statement on Tuesday, sharing that he was “blindsided” over Gass’ comment during the band’s Sydney show over the weekend.

According to fan video from the event, Black asked Gass to “make a wish” after being presented with a birthday cake in front of the crowd.

“Don’t miss Trump next time,” Gass responded, referencing the previous day’s shooting at the former president’s campaign rally in Pennsylvania that left Trump and others wounded and two more dead, including the gunman.

In his message, Black implied that he was taking his and Gass’ working relationship under consideration.

“I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” the statement began. “After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

Gass also issued an apology and indicated that his remark was not planned or rehearsed ahead of time.

“The line I improvised Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake,” he wrote on Instagram. “I don’t condone violence in any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement.”

Black and Gass have performed together in the comedy-rock duo for 30 years and had been scheduled to continue playing in Australia and New Zealand through the rest of July.
