Hayden Panettiere In Treatment For Postpartum Depression

Hayden Panettiere is on the road to recovery from postpartum depression.

The “Nashville” star is “voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center” for the illness, a rep for the actress confirmed to Access Hollywood on Tuesday. “She asks that the media respect her privacy at this time.”

Hayden welcomed daughter Kaya with fiance Wladimir Klitschko in December 2014, and has been vocal about her difficulties since starting their family.

“I can very much relate. It’s something a lot of women experience,” she said of the disorder, during an interview on “Live! With Kelly and Michael” in September.

Hayden — whose character on ABC’s “Nashville,” Juliette Barnes, also faces PPD — went on to say that she hopes the storyline will raise awareness about the ailment’s scope and frequency.

“When [you’re told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child.’ I’ve never, ever had those feelings,” the 26-year-old said. “Some women do. But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”

Hayden is not the first star to speak out about her personal struggle after giving birth. Brooke Shields, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amanda Peet, Courteney Cox, Kendra Wilkinson and more have discussed their own battles with postpartum depression as well.
