Gina Rodriguez On Her Big Golden Globes Win & Her Lena Dunham Encounter

Gina Rodriguez is a Golden Globes “Virgin” no longer!

The “Jane the Virgin” star nabbed her first Golden Globes nomination and her first win, taking home the award for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy category.

And as it turns out, not only was she thrilled over the big win, she was equally excited to meet one of her counterparts — fellow nominee Lena Dunham.

“I asked if Jane could lose her virginity on ‘Girls.’ We’re stilling waiting on that. We’re seeing if there’s a little HBO/CW crossover,” Gina revealed of her conversation with Lena at the awards show.

After her emotional acceptance speech, Gina’s tears continued to flow as she spoke with Access Hollywood Live‘s Billy Bush and Kit Hoover backstage.

“When I walked up there I was like, ‘Aw, don’t bawl Gina, don’t bawl.’ All I wanted to do was bawl,” she said. “I love the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. I was so nervous that when I got off the first thing I thought was I didn’t thank the people that gave me the award and I was so nervous about it, but the fact is that since the first conference that I did with them, they’ve been so receptive and open and loving.”

One of Hollywood’s newest “it” girls has remained humble as ever. She brought her investment banker sister, Ivelisse, as her plus one and couldn’t wait to celebrate her victory with the rest of their family at home.

“I wonder what they’re doing. I wonder how they feel. I can’t wait to see them after this. You know, everybody’s like, ‘What party are you gonna go to?’ I’m like, ‘The party in Ivelisse’s living room.’ All that matters is my family. They’re the reason why I act. They’re the reason why I fought.”

She holds her father’s wise words close to her heart to this very day.

“What a blessing because all I want to give away is that same idea of power and strength and knowing that fear is only between your two ears and you can and you will,” she said of inspiring young girls watching her on TV. “Something my father gave me that I wish every household was lucky enough to have.”

And, Sunday brought even more good news for “Jane the Virgin.” The series was renewed for a second season by The CW.
